Shrine Crafting Thread

Why Crafting is Useful.

Crafting is a process by which the player themselves may create their own weapons/armors to their advantage.

There are many advantages in crafting.

Shrine Crafting with the use of specific shrines allows a player to build towards a certain end with an armor or weapon.

A player could in theory build an entire suit around denoting their character a great amount more dexterity then would be available with Runewords or Uniques.

In some cases given the usefulness to a character that a craft might have they may surpass Runewords or Uniques.

Because Shrines and Sacred Weapons/Armor start dropping at the end of the Terror Difficulty it may be smart to stop their and make something to prepare yourself before you continue on to Destruction.

Shrine Crafting may only be done on Sacred Rare, Set, and Unique Weapons and Armor.

Affix burn recipe

This explosive alchemical combination burns all magic off an item, returning it as a basic damaged low quality item. This recipe is useful to prepare an item for a runeword.

Any item + Catalyst of Destruction + rune -> reroll item as low quality + Catalyst of Destruction

You will use this to reset the item to a lower state and then you will use this recipe



Reroll nonmagical to magic

Takes any non-enchanted item (white or grey) and upgrades it to a basic magical item. Although magic items are not the most powerful items around, they are used as base items for further upgrades, notably to create honorific items.

Non-magical item + Oil of Enhancement + rune -> reroll item as magic
to re-roll an item to a magical state so that you may continue on to the next recipe



Reroll magic to rare (gem shatter recipe)

Turn any magical item into a rare item. Note that this will slightly lower the output item level to 85% of the input item level, which limits the range of high level affixes that can appear on it.

Magic item + Oil of Enhancement + rune -> reroll item as rare

which will leave you with a rare item for crafting. This will as stated in the quote lower the iLvl of the item you are using. This will be explained later.

You may also use this recipe



Chaos reroll recipe

This recipe essentially ‘drops’ the item again. You may get a lowly white or magical item... or a powerful rare or unique. It depends on the roll of the dice, though high magic find helps.

Any item + Oil of Luck + jewel -> reroll item randomly (item level caps at 99)

to randomly re-roll and item to a rare quality without lowering the iLvl of the item. Be aware this could be far more costly and time consuming.

To re-roll any rare to an iLvl of 99 you may utilize the recipes available as of 1.A9



Act 2
LOCATION: DESERT AREAS

Maximum character level to do recipes
Hatred: level 60
Terror: level 100
Destruction: unlimited

Reward
Killing the dragon allows you to reroll a rare item as many times as you wish! Until the 30 second timer runs out...

Rare item + town portal scroll -> reroll item as rare + town portal scroll

Item level of output item
Hatred: level 40
Terror: level 80
Destruction: level 99

This one will re-roll any rare item you already have with an iLvl of 99. Given that you are in the Destruction difficulty and using the correct recipe. There are other rules that apply to the recipes.



Act 3
LOCATION: JUNGLE AREAS

Maximum character level to do recipes
Hatred: level 60
Terror: level 100
Destruction: unlimited

Reward
Killing the dragon gives you essentially an unlimited Chaos Reroll recipe for 30 seconds. This recipe will turn the item into a new item of the same type, which could be cracked, magical, unique or anything in between.

Any item + identify scroll -> reroll item randomly + identify scroll

Item level of output item
Hatred: level 50
Terror: level 80
Destruction: level 99

This recipe is basically the same as the Chaos Re-roll recipe, it may save you time, but it will save you materials.

Shrine Vessels

Carrying many holy relics can be a burden. Store your full shrines into a corresponding holy vessel that can hold up to 1000 shrines!

Shrine (full) + Oil of Craft → Shrine Vessel

Shrine Vessel + Shrine x1-39 → Shrine Vessel (adds 1-39 shrine count)
Shrine Vessel (not empty) → Shrine Vessel (-1 shrine count) + Shrine

The description says it all. This allows for easier storage of all the Shrines you may find and collect.

iLvl

Item level or iLvl is the level at which the item spawns and will decide many of the modifiers on the item.

This is immediately relevant to Shrine Crafting.

This like all of the other quoted listings are straight from the Median XL Documentation and are listed as per their relevance to Shrine Crafting.



Shrine crafting

Use a Portable Shrine to turn any sacred item into a powerful crafted item. The crafted item comes with several random rare modifiers and there is a high chance that some preset modifiers based on shrine type will appear as well. The preset modifiers may stack with the rare modifiers, creating some very powerful items.

Rare/unique/set/crafted sacred item + Portable Shrine -> reroll item as crafted + Portable Shrine -1 charge

Crafted items always have maximum sockets and receive a double bonus from Mystic Orbs.

What affixes will the item have?
The resulting crafted item spawns with 0-3 preset affixes depending on luck and shrine type used, and 1-4 extra random rare affixes, based on the item level:

Item level 1-30 : 40% chance of 1 affix and 20% chance each of 2, 3 or 4 affixes.
Item level 31-50 : 60% chance of 2 affixes and 20% chance each of 3 or 4 affixes.
Item level 51-70 : 80% chance of 3 affixes and 20% chance of 4 affixes.
Item level 71+ : 100% chance of 4 affixes.

The required level of a crafted item is:

[level of the highest affix * 3/4] + 10 + 3 * [number of random rare affixes]

Especially at lower levels, this formula may create items with a required level above the level of the character that crafted them. This is a feature of crafting and occurs in classic LoD as well.

Do not confuse required level, which appears on the item, with item level, which is invisible and usually equal to the monster level of the monster that dropped the item.

Btw. Due to a technical issue, you cannot use honorific items as input items.

Btw. If you ask me why your non-sacred item does not work, I murder a kitten.

Shrine Blessings

Blessing a crafted item with the same type of shrine that you used to craft the weapon or armor originally may allow you to further increase the concentrated effects of that particular shrine.

Furthermore you can use a different shrine from the one you used to create the crafted item to more modifiers of a specific type to the item that you are making.



Shrine blessing

A variant of shrine crafting, this recipe allows you to impart the blessings of the shrine unto an existing sacred item. This randomly adds some or all of the shrine modifiers to the item and subtracts 1 charge. You can only use this recipe once per item, so choose your shrine wisely.

Rare/crafted/honorific sacred item + Portable Shrine + Arcane Crystal -> add shrine bonuses + Portable Shrine -1 charge

The item gains 0-3 preset affixes depending on luck and shrine type used.

General Crafting Tips/Advice:

() All Melee Weapons are capable of spawning with the oSkills Clobber, Gorefest, and Overpower.

() Weapons, depending on what you are attempting to craft, will be better at an iLvl of 99. While this provides you with certain modifiers that you wouldn't be able to get in the iLvl of 84 range, you will have less average space to put mystic orbs on. Huge amounts of Maximum Damage will not spawn on Weapons alongside decent amounts of Enhanced Damage if the Weapon's iLvl isn't relatively close to 99.

() In many cases Armor crafted with an iLvl of 84 will allow for more space for mystic orbs and allow you to get the mods on it that you are looking for. Because Armor only has Enhanced Defense where as weapons have Enhanced Damage, Minimum Damage, and Maximum Damage, you are often more free to aim for certain modifiers.

() It is possible to get maximum +skills on weapons and armor with an iLvl of 84. Specific Weapons to take note of that do not apply to this will be Class Specific and Non-Class Specific Staves and Naginatas.

() Try to pick out 3 Criteria when Crafting the Ideal Weapon there are specific modifiers you will want to watch out for depending on the kind of character you are using. If your character is a heavy physical damage dealer you will want to aim for a weapon with High Enhanced Damage, High Maximum Damage, and third modifier you feel you need Most. Probably something Like +All Class Skills or Attack Rating. Unless you have an excessive amount of shrines, trying to roll a weapon with more then 3 Criteria could take you a while. I personally try to aim for my 3 Chosen Criteria and anything else I get when I hit them at a satisfactory level is a bonus.

() Shields can spawn with up to a 2% bonus to their Block Chance.

() Warp Blades may be able to spawn with the 20% Strength modifier, but this usefulness is limited to helping you equip your other gear because Warp Blades are a dexterity based weapon.

() Druid Staves can confer a 20% Dexterity Modifier despite being a Strength Based weapon used by casters.
