GTA: San Andreas - Multiplayer

Post by MarcoNecroX on Sun Nov 04, 2012 11:42 pm

For anyone who has GTA San Andreas, if you didn't know there is a multiplayer mod long ago, my favorite game after Median XL.

http://www.sa-mp.com/

You got a bunch of gamemodes for the servers, these are the main:
Freeroam: usually cover mostly anything, you can do stuff like buy houses, or properties and gain money over time, as well as randomly kill people. Usually these servers have bots that automatically create races for cash, or 'minigames'. These servers are my favorite, they cover all needs imho. Here you can pretty much get any of the normal weapons with commands.
Deathmatch: just kill and kill - usually split up by clans. There are bunch, some are zombie-themed, for example. Usually depending on what class you spawn with different weapons.
RPG: heavily modified gamemods - you can choose jobs and etc. and simulate a real life in the game (like original GTA), you can have cellphone for example and more.
Race: basically that, different races, offensive races, drift races, etc. But here I don't recommend SA:MP because it has bad object streaming - MTA (multi theft auto) is a lot more professional for this.

Then there are sub-gamemodes for the mentioned before, that are worth mentioning:
Protect The President: could be considered RPG, I personally hate RPG, but this one is more themed than RPG. Basically, there is a president, vice precident, Secret Service, SWAT, police, civilianz and terrorists. You can choose any upon spawning. It's pretty fun, you have to take the president down while he escapes, while the cops follow you like retards. If you're pro at driving, you can really confuse them with stunts like using random objects as ramps or w/e. Quite fun.
Cops & Robbers: this is a bit more deeper into RPG, but still not boring like normal RPG ones. Here you can choose between being cop, swat, robber, drug-dealer, rapist, gun-dealer, prostitute, and other different classes/professions. Each different devotion gets special commands, i.e. robbers can rob casinos for cash. You get wanted level, and police comes for you, and they will try to jail you. Kill them, and your wanted level increases, fun thing is that if you get very wanted, SWAT guys come (6 in a huge truck) and will try to hunt you down. If you're a good player this can be really fun to make them fail and rage.

Overall it's a really fun one. Everything that isn't pure RPG / race sucks for sa:mp. Basically , for such kind of game I don't like RPG because it's like you start with no weapons, no nothing and have to live a normal life, if I wanted that I'd play sims. It also requires a lot of time and progression. If you like these I only recommend cops&robbers, since you can get started up pretty quick. Protect the president GM doesn't require any progression, you just choose a devotion like terrorist/cop.

Freeroam modes pretty much can have it all, best here is that you get weapons for free if you like to train your killing. You can organize duels and whatnot. Deathmatch ones usually limit the weapons you can get making it 'more realistic'.

==========

What's so fun about this game - GTA:SA world is huge. There are all these hiding factors, or escaping, as well as uncovering paths or improvising ways while escaping. Additionally, the amount of ping makes aiming require some skill, asyou have to shoot wherever the player will be in the ping difference (in seconds) between you and him. Noobs don't get you and they shoot at what they see on their screen, they rage pretty fast. It's highly addictive , and usually all gamemodes let you register and save records for stats and get speciall commands after playing for a while.

of course, they are trying to score ;d

Just kill them if you are pro, or run away if you aren't. if you keep respawning and getting killed there like a noob, they won't stop ;p

I found MultiTheftAuto it be way nicer (especially if you are trying to do this for a lan, where sa-mp seems to have a lot of issues), it just requires a lot more setup to get stuff other than freeroam working -.-

I never really liked mta for anything other than races, in such case MTA overshadows samp a lot, but some freeroam / dm gamemodes for samp have years of development and they are really awesome. Another thing I don't like about MTA is the fact they disable c-bug for example which makes the whole killing a lot dumber. And I can't really remember about mta playerbase , some race servers have average 100-200 players, didn't check dm or freeroam ones.
