Have you guys heard of "Mingleplayer"?

Post by Roflknife on Fri Oct 18, 2013 7:59 am

Its been a way of mixing multi and singleplayer that i've been interested in.

Bungie are apparently going to use it a lot for their next game Destiny. Basically instead of having instances or a lobby you simply power on and enter the game. While you are killing monsters you might hear gunfire in the distance, which is another player. You can choose to ignore them, or join forces or kill them. IMO its a more natural way of including multiplayer and quite possibly the next big thing for multiplayer.

What do you guys think about it?

The whole world = instances?
Then it just another type of room-based multiplayer or singleplayer with online component (d3).

To be frank, it kinda like dark souls to me.
I think it is major important that future game have seamless opt-in-out multiplayer component.

Even I feel the same thing when I played PoE where you can see the player in town, then they run off to their own instances / world.

This actually sounds dumb, after playing defiance... Getting a thousand invitees because my level was "ZOMG OVER 9000!!!?!?" Is just terrible... Especially when I'm playing against superhard boss as a solo player.... Bad idea.

huh? i think your misunderstanding.

In true Mingleplayer you shouldn't be receiving invites because players have no idea theres another player is there until the server decides to drop people into another person's game

Like iwansquall said, its rather like Darksouls, but in the case of Destiny there won't be an item needed to invade or a warning (No non-consensual pvp, players just meet others)

Its basically co-op single player with the requirement you have friends over at your house. The server merges random player's games together without people noticing Very Happy

Several other game have it.

Resident Evil 6 have nice concept of it, but the gameplay sux....
The game will have 2 players in each episodes which potential for co-op
Then ppl also can join as enemy.

Hmm....
Seamless L4D? probably
