Could be a patch issue. Do you have 1.13 installed? Other possibility is a registry issue. Do you have a registry cleaner?

Only efficient ones I know of I downloaded with a torrent. Registry mechanic is one and almost every antivirus program has a built in registry cleaner. If the problem persists then I have no idea how to fix. maybe post a picture of the exact error you get. Lots of tech's on here that should be able to resolve with more info.

Without knowing his exact errors, if he's being completely honest here, I think it's a sound driver issue. @OP, assuming you have legit/non-corrupt copies of d2, then try uninstalling your sound and video card drivers and reinstalling them; be sure to get the most recent updates direct from the manufactures website, NOT FROM WINDOWS!

Re-download the patch maybe? Sometimes when downloading the files get corrupted. If you have done all those steps, I have no idea what else it could be.

Doubt it is this simple, but double check it is running in a stable compatability mode if applicable. I was experiencing random halt errors in XP service pack 2, no problems in pack 3.

If this is not a legit copy, where did you download it from? Just do it like I did and torrent it from tpb

That's an interesting PC you have there Very Happy

Intel Celeron 1x1866Mhz isn't that bad, but having 768MB RAM is sad...

If it crashes with 3 different versions, the problem is with your computer. You should download up-to-date drivers, and try changing your video settings as well from Glide to Direct2D (or if it's set to D2D, then set it to Glide).

Also it'd be easier if I knew what Fog.dll is used to but I'm not really into D2 reverse engineering, whist may be able to provide further details. But if Fog is just to calculate FoW, then it may just be your graphics settings being incompatible with your PC.

Thanks that is my laptop :Dit sux ik. I broke my pc bcus of the same shitty errors.  It has completely different Processor/video/ram settings drivers and so on. The problem is i cant set my Video settings to d2d or glide it stays to 3d idk why. I think that is the source of the problem.

Well basically you are not supposed to use the basic 3D settings at all, I'm always sticking to glide or 2D. Did you try setting it to 2D with D2SE?

@kanadaj my first thought was drivers also, but he said he updated all of them. My only working theory here is that both his PC and laptop have on-board gfx cards which pre-date even d2 somehow - a feat in and of itself. My second guess is same memory nodes being used by different programs, but this usually causes bsod, not game errors.

Re: Diablo 2 problems

Well it does not necessarily causes a BSOD, I think system used memory nodes will just deny access, throwing an error (although I'm really not sure about this on XP, but I'm pretty sure the W8 kernel just denies acces to nodes used by the system). Also, I think he may be simply out of RAM - pelroz, try increasing your virtual memory size. Not really sure but trying won't hurt.

Try this although it's probably redundant.

1. Uninstall and Delete diablo 2 (everything backup sp saves with an external flash drive).
2. Run registry cleaner
3. Install fresh copy of diablo 2.
4. Connect to battle.net to get latest patch version
5. Download fresh copy of mxl version you want to play.
6. Copy/paste the .mpq from the mxl into your diablo 2 directory.
7. Try running the game now and see if no errors.
8. If it works then slowly add anything like plugy, mxl utility, multires, whatever you like to use.
9. If it doesn't work then make a frisbee out of a computer that can play a game that takes more system requirements then a game it can't.

I don't believe this is the problem, but what did you use to reinstall windows? cds and especially dvds can have mistakes, I'd try to dl windows from the internet and then burn them on a new empty cd.

Never use battle.net patcher for mxl, you can't connect to TSW2 with 1.13d

Read #8. Point is to make the shit work before worrying about tsw, plugy, etc. It is a way to do it all with minimal aftermarket downloads.

Technically you don't need 1.13d for the game to work if you're playing a legit version...

NEVER download 1.13d if you intend to play any mod.

I only mean if he is somehow getting his patch versions not from blizzard, this would be a way to gaurantee he gets a legit version. There is a language barrier with the OP so I was trying the most basic stuff to at least allow him to run the game.

Afterwords i would suggest download game.exe and 1.13c from blizzard ftp page. Downgrading the patches is easy Very Happy
