Simultaneous Keyboard Input Limitation Help

Post by buffaloburger on Thu Jan 23, 2014 5:31 am

I play D2 with a Razer Naga that has 6 buttons on the side that can be tied to number row or number pad inputs. This works wonderfully, but apparently keyboards have a maximum number of simultaneous inputs allowed.  Because these inputs are tied to the keyboard, every now and then, I find myself attempting to go past this limitation and tripping myself up. Often to the point of getting myself killed.

My question being, is there a means of bypassing this limitation? I can work around it if I remain conscious to it, but it is extremely irritating when I'm trying to teleport myself out of a bad situation for example.

Sorry if this is not the place to ask or is a computer use basic. Running on the Windows 8 operating system if relevant.

Try StepMania forums. When I play StepMania, I use actual DDR pads, but when I tried it with a keyboard and 3 to 4 button combos came up, only two would register at the same time. On those forums is the answer to your question if nobody else knows it here, for sure.

Its looking like its a keyboard wiring limitation. Possibly if I play around with bindings and macros I can create functional workarounds. The extent of the limitation varies by keyboard. I'm guessing my playing on a laptop doesn't help ...

Could just buy a keyboard with a diode for each individual key  Rolling Eyes

I usually test keyboard with a game called o2jam.

That game a bitch requiring fast keyboard and 7 keypress at same time.

Usually super cheap keyboard work the best for them, I got logitech here can only press 6 at same time.

*why the fuk you need many button pressed at same time?

Mostly bad habits. I always have alt held down. I generally play very heavily on the shift key (stand still). Add on the fact that I'm usually spamming buckshot/voodoo shot/frag shot and you get 3 keys. Then whenever I try to toss in a skill switch on top of those...

So its definitely not a *need*. I could just break some bad habits. The are pretty damn ingrained due to the amount of hours I dumped into D2 in my childhood.

To my understanding, you can try using D2Clicker to alert you when certain items drop (based on specific string inputs or just item qualities), which could help you break your alt key habit (I was the same way for a long time, lol). Worth a shot!

MXL Utility has an option for always alt without any button presses or configuring item strings.

You can also force alt to stay on by holding alt while opening the cube and then closing the cube. It'll go away when you push alt again however.

Thanks for those 3 more practical solutions. I'll try that route before I sink in a lot of effort/money.
