New player here with a quick question on builds.

Post by Chated on Thu Aug 14, 2014 7:35 pm

Hey everyone,

So as it says in the title, I am relatively new to this version of the Median mod. My question is as follows: Is it viable to just play around and make up your own builds, or are there certain builds that are required to actually have a successful time later on in the game? I only ask because I wouldn't want to invest much time in the game if one build is far more viable than the others. Furthermore, it would seem the guide section is pretty outdated, is there a better way to find more up to date builds on some of the classes or are we to assume that those builds are still viable in the current patch and take it from there?

Thanks for any information that can be given Smile

The builds on the guide section are good for the current version too, and it's not required to have a certain build.
But obviously some builds work better than others, it's just up to you to find the play-style that you prefer Very Happy

if you want to play succesful unusual build with cheap items, pick melee necromancer with scythe, although his full developement starts at level 24, another popular build for starting is sorceress with cold spell tree

You don't understand how happy I am to hear you say a melee necro is cheap. I have been eying that for a while now...

All classes and builds are viable if u have basic knowledge of the game. But there're some build that are better at some ubers, not all but some. So there's no such a thing as "best" build/class. Ofc u can play the way u like and do ubers but in some cases they'll take ages or u don't even complete them. And guide section is pretty much "up to date" if you know what to do with your char.

Hi! Smile
You will (for the most part) be fine without any guide by looking at your skills and the benefit you get from putting points into them.
For example you may have a main skill that always does 3/2 weapon damage and recieves a bonus from +skill items on your gear. That would probably be a skill you wouldn't want to put points into because it gets powered up anyway.
But a skill that gives you flat elemental damage and powers up with points actively spent into it is probably a good investment (e.g. 900 fire damage 1 point spent, 9000 fire damage with skill maxed).
This is not always true, but if you do your best at making good choices you won't have many problems. Wink

Also make sure to check out the documentation of the game, if you haven't already: http://mxl.vn.cz/doc/

Hi Chated im a new player too and this http://mxl.vn.cz/doc/ info really helps me so much as you can respec your character and choose builds that suits the uber dungeon or heroic.

Necromancers are good too and is a good farmer and with best mana regen, slow and life steal. What I learned from playing for 3 weeks is that every uber dungeon be it heroic or summon requires a specific gear & strategy so pick up every sacred gear & sacred uniques for multiple strategy options and do not fear to respec.

But if you indeed pick necromancer pick an element to focus for example fire would be best for necro and magic for immunities since you already have the poison.

Try to farm level 100 runes to make Eternal Armor and equip sacred xbow with flametail shot for stun while playing a melee build on switch. So that you can cast disco ball which fires a melee hit spiral attack while you jump from place to place with angel of death  hahaha.

Look for Faster Hit Recovery, Faster Block, Max your resist possible, Increase attack speed. You can also play a caster with Necro via exploiting reanimates and sacrifice skill
Use Sacred Scepter of Tremain for instant heal and use Sahuagin Skin for frosting the whole map.

So there unlimited options you can do with Median XL and it is not specific to builds because you can adjust anytime and respec anytime while staying at the same char.

Keep experimenting and read http://mxl.vn.cz/doc/ for unlimited possibilities and don't hesitate to ask on quick question thread. Enjoy the game because it's worth it

Offtopic: Nice job layouting the Yshari Sanctum i enjoy the effort making the maze and played it while keeping the tab off (overlay map).
