MultiRes And Windows 8

Post by WolfieeifloW on Wed Oct 29, 2014 1:53 pm

Hey MXL.

I have Diablo II installed with D2SE, using PlugY, and trying to get MultiRes to work.

I have Diablo II installed in (C:\Diablo II\), and it's working perfectly fine without MultiRes.
As soon as I try to add "DllToLoad=D2MultiRes.dll" into my PlugY.ini, the game will not load.
After clicking the mod in D2SE, I just get different errors, either:
UNHANDLED EXCEPTION: ACCESS_VIOLATION (c0000005) OR PRIV_INSTRUCTION (c0000095)

I have no idea what to do. I've set EVERY single .exe in the Diablo II folder (and MODS subfolder) to Windows 7 compatibility (And tried XP SP2/3), run as Admin, and disable display scaling (With and without this one).

Help?

I've seen the first error often. Multires is just unreliable and seems to go fubar if you have any media playing while launching the game. After you get the error once you have to reset the pc and pray it works again afterwards. :/

I have had literally 0 errors on my desktop PC running Windows 7.
Seems like it's just Windows 8 not playing well.

What version are you using?
/e Generally yes, D2MultiRes is glitchy. Make sure you're using version 1.12. Also, are you using Borderless Gaming? That always seems to work when I can't play fullscreened. You do lose the functionality of Direct3D if you liked the pretty colors. I don't know if it'll make a different but have you tried patching the d2gfx with PlugY's patcher so you can use the standard Diablo 2 launcher?

It would be great if you did provide more details on what you actually did.

So, as I remember you need to change plugy.ini that can be found here as I know:

Diablo II game folder - D2SE folder - cores folder - 1.12.

Place all multires files in that folder - change plugy.ini file.

Only I'm not sure do you need to patch that one file.

To patch it you need portable version of plugy and there will be file that you need to patch certain file......etc.

Try now

I'm using the MultiRes from these forums.
I'm using the 1.12a core.
No, I'm not using Borderless.
No, I haven't tried patching d2gfx (Didn't need to with desktop).

@Rexxar: I installed it six different times, using the three different compatibility modes. All six times had "Run as admin" selected. One set of three was with Compatibility Mode alone (Besides Admin). The other set of three was with Compatibility Mode and "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings". I tried a mix of other Compatibility settings also, none seem to work.
  • Installed Diablo II via Battle.net digital download.
  • Ran video test in (XP2, XP3, and 7) compatibility.
    • Selected DDraw
  • Installed LoD via Battle.net digital download.
  • Ran video test in (XP2, XP3, and 7) compatibility.
    • Selected DDraw all three times
  • Installed D2SE.
  • Ran D2SE it in (XP2, XP3, and 7) compatibility.
    • All three of these loaded and loaded 1.12a core fine.
  • Installed Median XL - Ultimative (copied it into MODS folder per usual)
  • Ran D2SE it in (XP2, XP3, and 7) compatibility.
    • All three of these loaded and loaded MXL:U fine.
  • Installed MultiRes:
    • Placed all MR files in 'Median XL - Ultimative' folder inside MODS folder
    • Changed 'D2Core' to 1.12a in D2SE_SETUP.ini in the 'Median XL - Ultimative' folder inside MODS folder
    • Added 'DllToLoad=D2MultiRes.dll' to PlugY.ini in the 'Median XL - Ultimative' folder inside MODS folder
  • Ran D2SE it in (XP2, XP3, and 7) compatibility.
    • None of these worked.

PS: Just tried it and it worked, but guaranteed when I try again tomorrow or later it won't, lol.
Guess it's just luck of the draw ?

Since I've gotten my new computer, I have never been able to get multires to work, however I can't really write it off as incompatible because it worked fine on my old computer and both had/have windows 7, so I don't know if it's a windows patch issue, driver issue, or something I did wrong, but in all honesty, I haven't tried very hard to fix it. Truth be told the lag was unbearable without Svens Diablo Glide Wrapper, especially on my necromancer where some ubers, the screen simply stopped moving for upwards of 60+seconds. Once I switched over the D2SE and set glide with maximum buffer settings, all those problems went away so, if you find a fix, do me a favor and post it in my multires topic in the tools section, but I'm in no rush to find a solution myself.

Try BorderlessGaming. It's very helpful. It removes the edges (borders) of a windowed application and fixates the program to the top left of the desktop and will cover the task bar. The only side effects are glitchy graphics when in the Diablo menu and having to play in windowed mode.
