New Control Layout Guide

Post by Hardbash on Sat Nov 15, 2014 6:51 pm

Hello people of Median, have I got a guide for you!

This guide is here to help your controls be more accessible and less spread all over the damn place. While it may not be perfect, it certainly helps SO MUCH when you need to use a large abundance of skills.
So, I'll just jump right into it. I've tried this layout and while it was weird to get used to at first, mastering the layout will help enormously.

Q: Character page
W: Hireling page
E: Inventory
R: Quest page
T: Skill tree
P: Party screen
Y: Weapon switching ****
Semicolon (;): Message log
Apostrophe ('): Clear messages
A, S, D, F, G, H: Skills one through six (I usually bind my left mouse button with these, 'J' may be added if you wish)
Z, X, C, V, B, N: Skills seven through twelve (normally bound to my right mouse button, 'M' may be added if you wish)
1, 2, 3, 4: belt slots
Tab: map
Capslock: Walk/Run ****
Shift: Remain stationary
Alt: Show items on ground (I don't believe that is changeable)
Windows key: blasphemous obstacle that may minimize your screen during play.

For F1-F4, I decided that those can be map configurations.

If I left anything out (I most likely have) it was probably not changed.

**** These two have been switched quite a few times and I ended up getting the feel for their displayed assignations. However, depending on how important weapon switching is to your character, I recommend trading their assigned keys.

*already using something else*

Judging by your guide, common player's touch typing level must be godlike. Neutral Also, quest page, hireling page - why someone would bind a key for opening any of them?

Nice try, though!

Thanks, I thought it was much better than the default control scheme. I hope someone can find this and use it. I use it for all my Diablo 2 games, modded or not, so there's your question about the hireling page I guess?

Let's make a guide "How to move your character around the map" ! That would be awesome and very helpful to everyone !

Give this man a cookie!

How should I word that? Do you want to make it? If I make it you can be given credit. We'll be so worshipped!

What you know and take for granted, is not what everyone else knows and takes for granted. You must understand the human input/output system.

The amount of screenshots and videos I've seen of median with F1-F12 gameplay is disturbing.

I always open quest page to play the quest finish animation. It's a neurotic completionist thing.

As for mercs, I'm not even aware there's an alternate way of opening merc inventory?

1. Put a mouse pointer on a merc face;
2. Hold it for 1 second;
3. Click RMB to open merc's inventory;
4. ???
5. PROFIT

Or you can just press a hotkey. Much faster.

Using mercs is optional both for WDM and caster chars unless you feel lonely or want to experiment with some SU's such as 'merc bomb', imo.
