Question regarding affix rerolling.

Post by Daimoth on Fri Dec 12, 2014 6:32 am

Does this only operate within the range of the affix, or will potentially bump an affix up to the next tier? As a (rather telling) example, uptiering a shield with +1 to Paladin and cubing it with an Oil of Renewal. Will that always be +1, or does it have a chance of becoming +2 or more? Given that the item is able to receive that affix, of course.

Edit: While I'm asking questions, what causes Retaliate to proc? It seems completely random. I'll be taking loads of hits, and nothing, then it will proc rapidly for a while.

If you uptier an item, the affixes remain the same (unless you use the uptier recipe for uniques).

If you reroll with oil of renewal, all the affixes will be rerolled.

Affixes that can spawn depend on item level, item type, and quality level in some cases (not relevant for rares when you reach ilvl 99).

I see. So it doesn't reroll the values of the affixes, it rerolls the affixes altogether.

Thanks for the clarification.

I think he is playing a Paladin based on his OP.

@P{ Retaliate doesn't proc automatically, if that is what you are thinking. It is an attack that only "works" when you have "hit sparkles" around your toon. Are you sure you are actually getting hit? A standard tactic is to alternate running and walking. Run until you get hit--running drops your def to 0 increasing the chance you will be hit--then switch to walking until the sparkles wear off. Rinse and repeat.

Or you pick Deva king skill and use it every 5s thus getting ability to retaliate without getting hit.

Just say no to the Tranny morph. I prefer my Paladins to not have tits.

If we're talking about crafts/rares/magics then:

Yes, the affix level (alvl) increases if you uptier the item, because the quality level of the base item increases (qlvl) - so you can get higher alvl affixes. The item level stays the same though.

As @cowking said, those two links are relevant.

You can always reroll the rare on the Destruction A2 Dragon to get ilvl99. If it's not rare, use the cube recipes to make it one. (1-2x Upgrade to Magical/Rare Item, or even Affix Burn to make it white and then do what you want.)

If we're talking about uniques, the AC+Rune recipe will increase the base stats + blue stats according to the stats listed for each tier in the docs.

It's hard to tell, honestly. So you get hit properly, the skill becomes active and the novas start. They continue until the sparks wear off. That more or less explains the behavior I described. Fun skill.
