Save & Exit lag

Post by void on Fri Jan 16, 2015 12:04 am

When I save & exit in SP, sometimes I'm back at the title screen after 2 secs.
At other times it can take up to like 10 seconds. Even if in town (not many sprites onscreen) it can take very long; even if I don't do much of anything.
And I think that's weird, because D2 is such an old game, my computer should be able to do this much faster.

So I wonder can anybody explain why this takes so much time?

Experiencing the same things here too. These things occur only if I modify something to that character/game as in farming, crafting, doing all these kind of stuff. If I just bounce from a character to another without doing too much things it takes 1-2 seconds Smile.

I think this mostly happens if you leave, right after you did something. Say you just cleared full tristram, jump to town and leave almost instantly. It's a lot of data to handle in a very short time, got an engine as old as the one D2 runs on. This is all theory though .. Thinking

imagine on hardcore...when you s/e before you die but the delay causes you to die serverside. How you know when this happens? you'll be INVISIBLE in channel and character screen. Technically it means you should be alive but you're not. So imagine dying and yet you're not supposed to be dead Wink...then tell my 4 invisible chars how it feels...

probably this. try not using a ss of 400 pages.

(the shitty saving mechanism and d2 code is obviously to blame too)
