Idea for a custom uber

Custom uber: Judith, the Dark Witch

---The challenge---

To successfully complete this uber the player needs to keep a steady distance from the boss.
This means, not too close, as the boss has an offensive shield, that instantly kills when touched;
but also not too far away, as he can only damage her (the boss) using a special autotargeting oSkill that has limited range.

Additionally the boss is moving along a preset path, shoots deadly projectiles when hit
and randomly summons slow moving minions,
which have the ability to summon even more, faster minions.
The purpose of them is to distract the autotargeting oSkill.
Whereas the quick minions can die to it,
the slow ones only die to the attack of the monster summonable by Dark Summoning.

As soon as the boss has reached her destination, the player can't damage her anymore,
so he has to kill her before she does.
Otherwise: Try again.

---The story---

Will be added later. Just don't expect a lot of depth.
All you really need to know is that the boss is called Judith, the Dark Witch and you have to stop her evil plans by preventing her from walking to her altar.
If you thought she's one of the things that pounce on you, she is not. She's a human posessed by Diablo.


---What the atmosphere should be like---

Photoshopped pictures hopefully up soon.

  • Map: Arcane Sanctuary style. Long, narrow corridor. The player is forced to follow Judith and can't teleport over her.
  • Judith visuals: Modified Akara sprite.

---How it could be realized---

Since the files of the original Median XL are readily available, most important mechanics have already been implemented.
I'll go through the section The Challenge from top to bottom and explain what mechanics could be used where. For many of them the only thing that needs to be changed are the graphics.

  • Judith's offensive shield: ...is already in the game in the form of Singularity or Lightning Arena.
  • Special oSkill: Many autotargeting skills exist since cLoD. Purify, that can only damage certain enemies... already in the game. Many skills get additional range the more points are invested into them, check.
  • Preset path for Judith: Now this is a challenge. I know that it's possible to tell NPCs to move to a certain location. Maybe it can be worked with in that way. If not, it could still be worked around by using permanently charmed invisible enemies that guide her. Might be necessary to modify the fight a bit then.
  • Randomized attack patterns and summons: Already exist.
  • Judith shoots projectiles when hit: Works.
  • Monster run/walk speed: Can be modified.
  • Dark Summonable monster: Uses Bloodstorm mechanic together with Purify. If that doesn't work, the fight needs to be modified.
  • Judith's complete invincibility in case the player is too slow: 100% avoid aura granted by invisible totem.

Marco is trolling, or just high/drunk. Your idea isn't really possible, at least not without a bunch of bugs/issues, as far as I can tell. Dedicated code for this idea would be a lot of work as well. I do like the general idea though, which is killing a target following a path, before it reaches a certain point. What do you think Marco?

(@void: you can't really force a monster to walk somewhere as far as I know... think of a mechanism for that first... could be something with untargetable flag, invisible totems, auras and shit... probably something like Triune bosses/uldy rooms)

To be fair, there was a hack which allowed players to force NPC's to follow them outside of town: Leader Plugin for Redvex

Here's some ideas for creating this yourself: How to manipulate packets; Known d2 packets

I wonder if using this method could work for Void's idea in terms of forcing a target-able NPC to a specific point on a non-random map? Just saying.
