Can't Play Online. Desperately Need A Solution.

Post by AardvarkMcBacon on Sat May 02, 2015 3:29 am

Okay, I've seen from years past that I'm not the only one experiencing this error, but every single time I attempt to play online my game crashes and I get an error, then after the game finally shuts off after freezing, another error pops up. Yes, I've been troubleshooting and have followed every step to a tee. Installed, patched, modded, loaded TSW all in proper succession and I STILL get this damn prompt saying something's wrong. Please. Help. I've played with MXL before, but now I'm on PC and have no idea what's going on.  :wall:  :wall:  :wall:  :wall:  :wall:

Seemed to work fine on Mac... 8)

When exactly do you get the error? Upon starting Diablo? Or upon pressing "Battle.net" with TSW selected as your realm?

Are you running Diablo in administrator mode and in Windows XP SP3 compatability mode?
Do you have administrator permissions on your computer?
Which video source are you using (D2D, D3D, Glide)?
Are you absolutely, 100% sure nothing is getting corrupted during download/installation (the file host of Median's files is tremendously slow. Make sure you're getting the full data)?
Are you using an archiver to unzip the files?
You're absolutely sure you're using 1.13c and not d?
How are you installing Diablo? From CDs or the Battle.net installers? If CDs, original installation may be corrupted, try the Battle.net installers. If Battle.net installers, try redownloading the installers.
You're sure you're dragging the .mpq from the Median XLU - Ultimative folder that's found in the archive file that you download from MODDB directly into your Diablo 2 folder?
Try installing Diablo 2 into a different place, like C:\Games\Diablo instead of Program Files.

I always boot D2 in admin. Whatever's default, so probs Glide. Everything is A-Ok with single player so the files are all good. I made damn sure to install 1.13c patch. Double-triple-checked. I bought it straight out of the Battle.net client. I dragged MXL mpg file directly to the D2 folder after safely removing the standing patch to the desktop and MXL in sp works completely fine (a bit laggy but that's another issue).

You still didn't say exactly when does this error appear. After you do what? On what screen?

The error appears on my desktop as soon as I create or join a server and D2 freezes. Then, the second one shows up after D2 finally crashes or some seemingly set time afterward. I'm able to join tsw but cannot enter servers.

Here is a person that was getting the same error as you: http://www.medianxl.com/t4188-diablo-2-error-when-creating-game

It seems likely that you are using the wrong median version when playing on realm. Many newbies around here download Laz' last patch: 2012 v005 by mistake, when in fact you want Ultimative XVc. See the yellow link at the top of the forum.

Download from there in any case, try playing online again and then let us know the results.

EDIT: also to help fix your lag issues; I had them constantly when there were many procs on the screen, especially stuff like shower of rocks, or hanabigami spells or durance of hatred invisible elites. The solution was to add a -ns command to the shortcut target you run diablo through. I am also using the diablo glide wrapper posted on this forum. Now I have no lag whatsoever.

when you run the video test, you MUST set as 3D not 2D!
then when running d2 u can goto properties and put -w at the end

do the video test first and will fix this problem, goto ur d2 file and rerun the video test.
right click d2 icon and make sure set as service pack 2 and run as admin,
end f the target line put -w at the end make sure a space at end before the -w
