Looking for assistance - my Assassin is made of tissue paper.

Post by EARLtheWARLORD on Thu Jun 11, 2015 12:44 pm

Hey all, I've been watching these forums for some time but this is my first post.
I'm reaching out for some assistance as I've having the most frustrating time trying to get my Throwsin through Terror-act 5. She's around 112 with the following skill setup:

20 pts in Maelstrom MKV
10 pts in Blink (down to 2.6 timer)
15 pts in WotSpider
10 pts in Queen of Blades
15 pts in WotPhoenix
19 pts in Perfect Being (will go to 20 once I level up some more)
then
1 pt in Vampiric Icon
8 pts in WotGryphon

I've got 17 points free right now, unsure what to do with them.

Went mostly Dex with all the Str I needed for equipment (and a few into Vitality). Using a 'Lem' sacred flying knife (love that Blast Way proc!) MO'd with %ED and about 10% life and mana leech; Jitan's Kamon, Featherclaw, 'Cham' in boots, Wormtongue light belt, 'Jah' in sacred circlet, and 'On' in a sacred totem shield. All armor has been MO'd with %EDef and %TCD where I can fit it. Got about 24k Def, 14k-24k Maelstrom damage (as per the character page). I don't have any of the charms yet (besides Sunstone, Harkon, and Assassin class charm).
I feel like my killspeed is okay (especially when I aim Maelstrom perfectly) but I get torn up so quickly. I usually stay at range and I'm okay, but ranged attacks hurt and if anything gets in melee that I can't buzz-saw to death immediately... hits like a truck. I'm having the most problem with the Anients right now. One good hit and I'm toast.
I don't have access to much SU or sets yet (Tracker doesn't want to drop for my Parasite necro) so I feel like I'm stuck.
Can anyone offer some advice? Is there something that I'm missing? Hitting a Wall

Wychwind's damage is awesome, but I have a hard time getting the buggers to stay still long enough to cross its field. Mostly because they're ignoring my merc and chasing my delicate ass all over the mountain top.
Any suggestions as to what to do with all these skill points I have sitting around? No idea where to put them. Considered Wychwind, but I rarely use that... maybe Broadside?

If you haven't done the minigames I'd encourage you to do those for more max skills.
Since ancients seem to be a problem, you can use FRW gear to dodge them better and just keep hitting, at some point the screen will have enough Wychwind spots that you hit them most of the time.

Should I sink my points into Wychwind or is that viable at 1 point?

1 point only, rather max broadside for more knives thus more damage dealt and as void said, do those minigames so you can spend those points in maxing ways.

Gotcha. The only minigame I haven't completed is Mirror-Mirror, but that one seems monstrously annoying.
Thanks for the input, I'll try it out this evening.

Personally I don't put more than 1 because I mostly use it on bosses which are rather rare fights to begin with, but you CAN if you want.
IMO Broadside is kinda annoying to use as long as spell timer hasn't been lowered to its minimum, but at the same time it's a nice skill and you might want to dump all leftovers here.

Also just a tip: There are some recommended amounts of points to put into Blink, one of them being 9 points.

Maxing Broadside seems dangerous on a Throw-only-Assassin... Unless I can get the timer WAY down to something manageable (4-5 seconds?) that puts me in a dangerous position where I've got no attacks.

Well, you could use weapon switch with nagi or claw, all the skills for those are basically 1 pointers too.
